Congrats to Tish: CASA Lafourche

On August 14, Foundation Chairperson Tish Hebert was sworn in as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) for Lafourche Parish. As a CASA, she will be assigned to specific children within the foster system to become their advocate/voice in the court system.

Children with a CASA are 50% more likely to move out of the system and into a safe, permanent home. Congratulations, Tish, on your new title, and thank you for the honorable work that you are doing!

According to National CASA, children who have CASA volunteers are:

• More likely to be adopted.

• Half as likely to re-enter foster care.

• More likely to receive quality education services.

• Substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster.

• More likely to receive service that benefit their long-term mental health.

So, approximately half of the children in foster care in Lafourche Parish do not have a CASA advocate at this time. CASA is hopeful to increase that number in the near future.
