Girls Design for Good Challenge

Earlier this spring, Danos partnered with Natrx for The Girls Design for Good Challenge hosted at Fletcher Technical Community College. The event was a free girls-only engineering design challenge supported by the Million Women Mentors of Louisiana and LaSTEM. The goal of the day’s activities was to make STEM exciting and relevant to motivate girls to pursue high-demand, high-wage STEM careers.

Human Resources Specialist Jessica Stegall identified the opportunity for partnership upon learning that the focus of the event was coastal issues related to land loss, climate change and restoration efforts. She then connected with Paige Powell, market researcher at Natrx.

Paige spoke to 7th and 8th graders about the Danos and Natrx partnership, specifically as it relates to the Cajun Coral project for Shell. Danos HR Administrative Assistant Abby Authement also attended the event.

The Louisiana Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Advisory Council (LaSTEM), under the auspices of the Board of Regents, is tasked to coordinate and oversee the creation, delivery and promotion of STEM education programs, to increase student interest and achievement in the fields of STEM, to ensure the alignment of education, economic development, industry, and workforce needs, and to increase the number of women who graduate from a postsecondary institution with a STEM degree or credential.
